C3 and C4 Teachers are scrambling to Replace Retiring School Administrators.
C3 and C4 Teachers are scrambling to Replace Retiring School Administrators.
It’s a nasty battle involving primary school teachers in grades C3 and C4. In July 2022, they both seek to succeed retiring head teachers.
Thousands of school administrators in both primary and secondary schools will retire in the next two months after reaching retirement age.
In addition, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will dismiss 1,025 school principals whose two-year contracts are set to expire in July.
In the year 2020, the Commission hired 1,594 head teachers and principals on a contract basis when they reached the required retirement age.

The school heads will be released, according to the Commission’s CEO, Dr. Nancy Macharia, to enable for new recruiting.
However, Macharia stated that the Commission will keep 569 school heads whose contracts have been extended until December 2022 due to school stability.
After a job evaluation in 2016, TSC ditched Schemes of Service (SoS) in favor of the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) as a grading system for teachers.
TSC divided senior teachers into two groups in primary schools. Senior Teacher II (T – Scale 7) (also known as grade C2) and Senior Teacher I (T – Scale 8) (also known as grade C3) are two types of senior teachers.
Grade C2 is the first step into the administrative cadre in primary schools. After three years, these C2 teachers progress to grade C3.
Grade C4 teachers, also known as Deputy Headteacher II (T – Scale 9), on the other hand, are deputy headteachers.
Because of their extensive expertise in leading schools, both C3 and C4 teachers are eligible to succeed retiring school heads.
