CS Magoha Lists Guidelines for Selecting Junior Secondary Schools

Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has indicated that Grade Six students will be required to pick 12 schools for the Junior Secondary school.

In a circular released to schools, it was revealed that students ought to pick national schools, regional schools, county schools, sub-county schools and private schools.

Magoha indicated that for the national, regional, county and private schools, students will pick two schools for each of the categories.

Additionally, students will pick four sub-county schools.

“Parents will be expected to meet the student’s education in private school,” read the circular in part.

On the other hand, while speaking to the media on Friday, August 19, Magoha urged parents and teachers to help the students pick schools next to their homes to ease the transition.

“The majority of the students in private schools who usually do very well will remain in their schools. Probably in the coming week, I shall pronounce myself on the number of primary schools that have converted and are ready,” he stated.

Magoha also noted that the deadline set for the application had been set for August 30.

However, the CS indicated that the ministry was open to extending the deadline to avoid locking out students from the process.

The exercise kick-started early in the week after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) opened the apllication portal for the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Grade Six students are expected to join Junior Secondary in January 2023 after sitting the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) in November.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will take place within the same period.
