The National Parents Association’s Nicholas Maiyo had asked Magoha to prolong the school year because of the disruption the elections had caused.
If the terms are not extended, parents have also requested a reduction in school costs through their representatives.

“Schools were to open on August 11, but this was pushed to August 18. Our appeal is that the school calendar be extended or if it is not possible, they reduce the school fees,” Maiyo appealed to Magoha
On September 16, the second term will come to a conclusion, and students will have just one week off before returning for the third term of the 2022 academic year.

This will put a stop to the two-year program collapse caused by the 2020 pandemic hiatus. In January 2023, the regular school year will start again.
Maiyo also requested that the government, through the Ministry of Transport, which is overseen by Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, control the public service vehicle (PSV) industry after some of the operators raised prices on Thursday, August 18, when classes resumed.

After parents objected to fee hikes on the majority of routes, they had to delve deeper into their wallets to get their children back to school.
“We want to appeal to the government to take stern action against matatu saccos taking advantage to increase fares,” Maiyo added.

Parents have been reassured by the National Police Service (NPS) that students would have security when they return to school.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), on the other hand, urged matatu drivers to follow traffic laws in order to prevent accidents.
