GSU officers surrounded Governor Arati’s office before he spoke.
The incident that occurred on Monday morning, when a group of GSU officers blocked Kisii Governor Simba Arati’s office, has been explained.
Arati told Citizen TV that he had learned in the morning that the GSU police had taken control of the entrances to his Gusii stadium offices.
He made the decision to visit the office in his capacity as Governor to inquire about the situation and whether his office’s doors were shut.
When he arrived, he got out of his car, welcomed the officers who had set up shop at each entrance, and inquired as to their purpose.
When their leaders arrived, Arati recalled, “I got out of the car, greeted them, and asked where their leader was and why they were there, but they did not tell me until then.”
He continued, “I wondered how they were resting yet they had taken positions at every entrance to my office. When I talked to them and asked what they were doing at the stadium, they told me they were resting.”
Arati questioned how the GSU officers had come to examine his offices, claiming that the EACC or DCI officers should have been sent in to look for any potential misconduct.
The county chief is claiming that even though their goal is yet unknown, it could be the result of his rivals in politics seeking retribution.
He added that the police, whom he claimed had been transported from Kisumu to the stadium, were awaiting a court warrant before searching his house and business.
“Arati stated, ‘I have heard they were waiting for court orders, hoping to get orders to come to my office and at home.'”
He continued, saying:
“I live in a village, so please don’t kill my people. If they get orders to come to my home, they should come during the day.” I asked them yesterday.
When a group of heavily armed General Service Unit officers barricaded Arati’s office on Monday, it caused uncertainty.
When the governor arrived for work on Monday, the officers did not prevent him or his crew from entering the office at Gusii Stadium.
According to police officials, the policemen were sent to the county to take action against boda boda riders who are thought to be involved in illegal operations.
