The students who wish to study Mathematics-related courses must now obtain a minimum grade of C (plain) in English or Kiswahili.
The new plan will not change the C+ (plus) admission grade for university, but it will influence individual disciplines such as computer science, ICT, economics, statistics, and finance that are required to follow one’s desired course.
In the past, students’ placement in these courses was determined solely by the subject of Mathematics.
As per to the new suggested arrangement, students will need Mathematics plus English or Kiswahili to qualify for placement under government sponsorship.

The students pursuing a Bachelor of Science with Education, education stakeholders have recommended lowering the admission criterion for Biology, Physics, or Chemistry from a C+ (plus) to a C (basic).
Mathematics is no longer a necessity for pursuing a Bachelor of Education- according to stakeholders.
The Students will now only need a C (plain) in either English or Kiswahili to be admitted.
Now with the addition of Geography as an option to Chemistry and Agriculture as an alternative to Biology, students interested in environmental sciences will have a greater range of disciplines to choose from when applying to universities.
Most students perform better in Agriculture and Geography than in Mathematics and Chemistry, thus the modifications are seen as offering a softer landing.
