KUPPET Calls on Ministry to Release Funds to Schools as soon as possible

KUPPET officials have now demanded the Ministry of Education to issue new fee guidelines to help parents understand the current economic situation in schools.
According to Kuppet Secretary-General Akelo Misori a big number of parents have been voicing many concerns about recent fee increases in some boarding schools throughout the country.

According to the KUPPET chair in light of current economic conditions,there is need for the government to issue new guidelines on school fees.

He has urged for immediate action a soon as possible to avoid any misunderstanding that has kept rising between stakeholders in education sector.

He further added that most parents are unaware that the increases were mandated through a participatory process led by school boards that included parents’ representatives among other relevant authorities.

Akelo noted also that as a result of the reecent economic trends, most boarding schools are finding it difficult to provide services such as housing and meals without raising parent fees.
This ranges from the already risen Prices of cereals, other foods, and necessities such as cooking oil that have more than doubled in the last year alone and since the government last set school fees.

These sentiments are after the Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has asked school principals not to send students home to pay school fees.
