About 15,000 advertisements for diploma teachers will be released next week following a meeting with teacher employers by the Kenya Union of Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet).
“The announcement will be competitive and this will be a good step to take them to the next class,” Misori said.

However, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) teachers will miss out on promotions as the union has rejected the Career Development Guidelines (CPG) that will be used to transfer teachers.
The TSC implemented career guidelines that served as the basis for upward action against Knuth’s automatic promotion in the old order.

Justice Byrum Ongaya last month struck down the new career development rules for the promotion of teachers, which Knuth strongly opposed.
This means that all Knut Certified members will not benefit from the promotion.

Nancy Macharia, chief executive of TSC, said she created the CPG after realizing that the Service Scheme was a poor tool in this area.
“The court’s ruling on teachers’ promotion means that some of the promotional benefits that CPG received are lost,” said Macharia.

He said that the promotion of teachers who are members of Knut must be in accordance with the rules of the Service Scheme.
Macharia said that in CPG, he has implemented Phase I and Phase II of CBA for all teachers regardless of the union.

“The CBAs have introduced a paradigm shift in teachers’ salaries which until now were not based on job value, but on teachers’ job groups,” Macharia said in an earlier statement.
Kuppet has started negotiations for the 2021-2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) regarding the proposal to raise wages.

Kuppet proposed to increase the basic salary by 30 per cent to 70 per cent from the current minimum wage of Sh21,756 to Sh36,985,” said Kuppet.

If the recommendations of the document submitted yesterday are implemented, the highest paid teachers in job group D4 who currently earn Sh118, 242 will take home Sh153,714.

Kuppet offers hospital cover of Sh900,000 for the lowest paid teachers, up to a maximum of Sh2.5 million for the highest paid teachers. Currently, stationary is between Sh500,000 and Sh1.5 million.

The union wants it to be unlimited and optical and dental coverage, increased to Sh50,000 and Sh40,000 respectively. These covers currently cost between Sh10,000 and Sh25,000.

Kuppet wants an increase to Sh150,000 from the current Sh75,000 to Sh150,000 and a cap on Group Life from Sh600,000 to Sh900,000. The union also proposed an average cap of Sh200,000 for final costs.
