The government modifies required coursework and entrance requirements for universities.

For the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, the Kenya Ministry of Education has unveiled a new grading scheme.

Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education (CS), made the declaration at the opening ceremony for the 2023 national examination period.

Instead of the prior requirement of five obligatory topics dispersed across three cluster groups, the updated grading system only requires two compulsory subjects to determine the average score.

Math and a language, such as English, Kiswahili, or Kenyan Sign Language, are required topics. In addition, students have the option of selecting five additional subjects in which they do best.

This reform effort is anticipated to contribute to an increase in the number of eligible applicants accepted into universities, degree programs, and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs at the certification and craft levels.

The minimum admission standards for beginning teacher training programs, particularly the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), are also being reviewed by the Ministry of Education.

The new prerequisites and test results for subject groups will now be used to determine admission to these programs.

These adjustments are in line with the recommendations of the President’s Task Force on Education Reform, which intends to strengthen IT infrastructure for school programs and raise the level of digital literacy among teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in order to integrate technology into education.

By administering e-assessments to aspiring teachers, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is also incorporating digital literacy with the goal of providing teachers with digital abilities they can pass on to children.

In order to secure the safe and prompt delivery of inspection documents to various places and so guarantee the safety and security of financial assets, the government is also taking steps to regularly monitor weather forecasts. Test and evaluation results for 2023.
