Parents ask the Ministry to establish a direct line where they can report schools for motivation fees

Parents have asked the Education Ministry to set up a direct number so that people may report schools that still impose “motivation fees.”
This comes after Dr. Julius Jwan, principal secretary of the state department for early learning and basic education, issued a warning that the government would take action if students were being sent home from government schools due to teacher motivation fees.

The PS, who deemed the practice undesirable, stated that field officers who fail to report the cases will be held accountable by the government.
A small number of parents who complained to Education Media believe that most field officers collude with school administrators and board members.

Tony Otieno, a native of Kisumu County, asserted that certain parent representatives openly participate in the “motivation fees” scam.
Another parent, Jonathan Mutie said, ‘As long the ministry doesn’t have an easy and reliable way parents can report the schools asking for this money, the rampant vice will continue to flourish.’

Esther Nangila chipped in saying that some learners have been denied clearance and their certificates withheld because of not paying motivation fees.
