The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers (Kuppet) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) are geared up for a contentious debate. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) relocates tutors from primary to secondary institutions as part of its planning for the start of Grade Seven the following year.

According to Kuppet, the group that represents instructors in post-secondary institutions, the transferred teachers will be sought after.
Despite being Knut members, the tutors are required by law to join Kuppet because they will be instructing at secondary schools.

According to the reliable source of information, Akelo Misori, secretary-general of Kuppet, KNUT has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with TSC to only represent teachers in elementary schools. Therefore, they are unable to claim to speak for the instructors.

The TSC has already transferred about 1,000 degree-holding teachers from elementary to secondary schools prior to the establishment of junior secondary.
More instructors will be redeployed in order to address the teacher shortage in secondary schools.

The Knut secretary-general has stated that even though they signed the demarcation protocol with the TSC when they took office last year, the law takes precedence over the agreement.
He said that Knut will advocate for all teachers, whether they work in primary or senior schools.
