TSC Determines How Many Trees Teachers Need to Plant on Monday, 13th
On Monday the 13th, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is encouraging all of its employees, including teachers, to plant at least two trees in their home areas in honor of the National Tree Planting Holiday.
The TSC stated that regional and county directors will be in charge of the tree planting operation in a statement released on Saturday, November 11.
Please participate in the nationwide tree-planting campaign, which will take place in your neighborhood on November 13, 2023. Planting at least two trees will be a requirement for all TSC employees. Part of the statement reads.
On November 3, the Cabinet agreed to designate a special working day for tree planting in recognition of the effects of climate change and in compliance with the 15 billion tree pledge.
The State Department of Basic Education aims to plant 200 million tree seedlings annually in educational institutions nationwide to address the effects of climate change, working towards the 15 billion trees goal by 2032, as mandated by the president.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu disclosed last month that the country has more than 24,000 public primary schools and 9,130 public secondary schools with ample suitable land for tree planting.
The ministry is dedicated to its target and has tasked the 398 sub-county directors of education with planting 510,000 trees this year.
Highlighting the significance of nurturing planted trees to maturity, CS Machogu emphasized the integration of environmental conservation into school programs.
“We have integrated environmental conservation in subjects like home science, social studies and agriculture in addition to having clubs and societies like the 4K, Red Cross and Wildlife so that our learners are able to take care of the environment even at a young age,” said CS Machogu.
