TSC Guarantees Higher Grades for P1 Teachers in the Recruitment Process.

Here’s some good news for elementary school teachers who have gone above and above to further their credentials; it will make all of your hard work even more valuable.

Teachers with the updated Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) credential will gain extra credit in the upcoming hiring process, according to a statement released by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

At a recent meeting with education stakeholders at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi, TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia reaffirmed this announcement. Dr. Macharia believes that educators who have made the investment to enhance their education should be honored, and the Commission is doing just that.

“In the competitive recruitment process, teachers with upgraded qualifications will receive five more marks than those with the standard P1 certificate,” Dr. Macharia told reporters.

Plans to fill 8,707 replacement roles on a permanent and pensionable basis have also been disclosed by TSC. Retirements and other departures from the teaching profession have contributed significantly to the opening of these positions. The breakdown of the openings is as follows:

  • Primary Schools: 5,862 positions
  • Junior Secondary Schools: 21 positions
  • Secondary Schools: 2,824 positions

Applications open on December 31, 2024, and the window closes on January 13, 2025.

If you’re planning to apply, make sure you’ve checked all the requirements and submitted your application through TSC’s official online portal—because, as TSC has repeatedly emphasized, their process is completely free and doesn’t require any third-party “assistance.”

Who Can Apply?

If you’re thinking of throwing your hat in the ring, you’ll need to meet these criteria:

  • Citizenship: You must be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Qualifications: For primary school positions, you’ll need a P1 certificate (or, ideally, the upgraded DPTE qualification). For junior and secondary school positions, a diploma in education is required.
  • Registration: You must be duly registered with the TSC.

All applications must go through TSC’s online recruitment portal, so avoid paper submissions or any unofficial platforms.

This bonus-mark program is a component of TSC’s broader plan to gradually replace the outdated Primary Teacher Education (PTE) credential as the minimum requirement for primary school instructors with the modernized DPTE.

The action is in line with initiatives to improve teacher readiness for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which is currently reshaping Kenya’s educational landscape.

TSC is making it very evident that professional development is important by awarding individuals who have gone above and beyond to advance their abilities. In addition to raising the bar for teacher credentials, this decision guarantees that Kenyan students are taught by instructors who are prepared to meet the changing requirements of the curriculum.

Throughout the hiring process, Dr. Macharia urged candidates to exercise caution and vigilance. TSC does not impose any fees or use middlemen in the hiring process.

A scammer is someone who is requesting money or saying they can guarantee you a job; avoid them!

Fundamentally, this statement is about rewarding and recognizing educators who take an active role in their careers, not just about grades.

This could be your chance to stand out in a competitive job market if you have obtained your DPTE or are thinking about improving your credentials.

In addition to bolstering the workforce, TSC’s investment in teachers is opening the door for a better educational system that recognizes excellence, progress, and the influence of committed teachers like you.

Make sure to check the official TSC website for any updates or additional information regarding the application process. And never forget that your commitment to honing your abilities is a step toward creating better futures for Kenyan children. You’ve got this, so keep going.
