Circular for TSC TIMEC training. The country’s largest teacher employer, Teachers Service Commission (TSC), has started teacher training activities in a variety of zones within its sub-counties.
The Teacher Induction Mentorship and Coaching (TIMEC) program is how the commission plans to train new teachers.
According to the commission, the goal of the mentoring and coaching program is to boost teachers’ performance in their areas of accountability.
TSC anticipates that at least one teacher, one deputy principal, and one school principal will enroll in the course.
While some sub-counties have already started their training, all must finish it this week.

For formality reasons, this might be provided during a job interview because it gives them more credit.
The Commission has developed a structure and policy to steer the project.
The Commission states that instructors who finish the program successfully will be entitled for a range of benefits and incentives.

The TIMEC is a systematic program for supporting teachers that has a focus on preventive measures for the administration of teacher performance and professional conduct.
The TIMEC program was developed by TSC as a component of a larger effort to enhance teachers’ professional conduct and practices.
The curriculum aims to :
- improve teachers’ competencies and abilities,
- as well as their understanding of the laws, regulations, policies, procedures, values, and
- norms that regulate the teaching profession.

TSC MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME DEFINITION OF TERMS
1.Coaching
An approach where a supervisor supports an individual or a team by building their skills, competencies and attitudes through direction and instruction.
This helps them to learn a particular skill (current skills or acquiring new skills) or work towards a set goal.
The aim of coaching is to improve the individual’s performance on the teaching career

2.Mentorship
A structured, sustained process of enabling an individual to gain more knowledge and skills.
The skills acquired assist him/her in:
- advancing professional and personal skills and/or
- leadership capabilities for more effective service delivery,
- job performance and career management.
3.Mentee
A person who is guided and supported by a more experienced individual in the field of interest and area of competency building.
This aims at in promoting continuous personal development and realization of one’s full potential.
4.Mentor
A specialist and an experienced person who seeks to pass skills, expertise and knowledge to a less experienced teacher.
The rationale of doing so is to foster the latter‘s career and personal development.
A mentor leads by example through his/her expertise or success.
